Turning the back yard into the picnic of your dreams!

Usually at this time of year we are tightly packing the car full of tents, chilly bins and beach gear, but not this year. Covid-19 has a different idea and it is keeping us indoors or at least in the confines of our sections.

When the only option we have is a staycation, let’s make it an Easter (holiday, time) to remember. Savour a fun filled day of preparations for a beautiful sunny afternoon by setting up a glorious backyard picnic that the family will love, in your own backyard.

Go all out with the decoration and food, making this a treasured memory!

Lay out blankets, some cozy cushions and beanbags. Hang bunting or paper lanterns from the trees in the garden. String up the Christmas ferry lights, so as the sun goes down the atmosphere continues on into the night.

Turn some old crates or boxes into tables by turning them upside down and if you have any lanterns or candles, add them to the fare. If you have got lovely plates and accessories, that you only bring out for a special occasion, now is the time! Also, Kmart is doing online orders still so if you would like to invest in a little traditional picnic set, do it! The kids will remember it forever.

Pack a picnic basket and full it with gourmet home-made goodies like red velvet brownies, sticky turkey meatballs on a stick, and mini sliders for the kids.

To entertain the little ones, arrange a treasure hunt around the garden (even if it is with their own toys) or tell the kids to invite their teddy bears to the picnic.

It is also super important to ensure you have a rug that is big enough for the whole family! I have found a company that recycles their mats, and they are super cool, click here to have a look!

Finally, don’t forget to put on your favourite music to set the scene.

This is an exciting little activity for everyone and is a great reminder that you don’t need expensive lunches, or things to have an amazing time.
