Let’s face it, 2020 has not been an easy year for anyone. With the uncertainty of the world as well as whatever your personal circumstances may be, it can be easy to be overcome with overwhelm.
Not knowing what the future holds for us can be all-consuming and very overwhelming, sometimes to the point that you are paralysed from the overwhelmed and can’t step forward.
When uncertainty in our lives becomes over-powering it is easy for your stress-levels to increase to boiling point, worrying yourself sick about the future. It could be your job, business, finances, health, or relationships that have become uncertain in 2020.
The truth is that at every point in our lives, there is no certainty and we only have now.
It can be easy to make up stories in our own heads about things that might happen and our mind has us believing those stories. Before you know it, you are worrying yourself sick about something that possibly isn’t even a reality or might only have a small chance of coming to fruition.
You think and stress about all the things that need to be done in the future or what the future might look like.
There are all kinds of scary what-if’s floating around inside your head, but in reality, they aren’t so bad and are very unlikely to happen. These thoughts can lead to feelings of hopelessness and overwhelm.
Worrying and stressing about future events doesn’t mean that these things are true or factual. It only diverts energy and focus from what’s happening in the present moment and prevents you from making wise decisions.
By simply noticing that the stories you are playing over in your head and acknowledging that that is all they are, you can regain control and bring things back to the present moment.
If I ever start to feel overwhelmed by my business, life, what I have to do, my relationships or the future, I straight away stop!
I think about an apple and if I was to take whole apple to eat, how I would do that.
Isn’t it true that you would not eat the entire apple in one bite? You inherently know that the apple would make you choke! Therefore you don’t even think about eating an entire apple in one bite.
What you do is you take the apple and you bite one bite, you chew the bite until you are able to safely swallow it, so that your body can digest it. Then you take another bite. As you bite through the apple you are able to reach other parts of the apple near the core.
It is the same approach if you were to climb a mountain. Just one step at a time. As you do that the path of life reveals itself.
This is how it is possible to live in the now, deal with what is before you in the present time and how to overcome overwhelm of the future.
Make your one next decision and don’t worry about the other things, one thing at a time and allow time for your life path to reveal itself.
When it reveals itself, you will understand, like I did…. That the best is yet to come!
